Summary 13;
The Claims Litigation Counsel provides legal representation to the organization in claims:related litigation through collaboration with the SVP/Chief Legal Counsel and litigation support staff. The Litigation Attorney will manage claims and serve as primary counsel on specified malpractice and tort litigation in consultation with designated in:house colleagues. REQUIRED:
Graduated from an accredited law school
Seven (7) years of relevant experience (healthcare, insurance, malpractice, product liability, complex litigation)
Licensed as an attorney in the State of Tennessee.

Juris Doctor of Law degree
Three (3) plus years of relevant experience (healthcare, insurance, malpractice, product liability, complex)

:Knowledge and understanding of state laws and regulations affecting healthcare organizations.
:Knowledge of healthcare industrys trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations and trendsetters.
:Ability to gather necessary information to determine damage and liability implications and other case:specific issues.
:Knowledge of the procedural and judicial rules governing the litigation of medical malpractice and other claims.
:Knowledge of the full spectrum of activities, practices, tools, and considerations for managing and litigating medical malpractice and other claims. 13;

:Administers and prepares witnesses for depositions, formulates case strategies, handles discovery, and interacts with medical operations and corporate personnel.
:Represents the organization in hearings and trials, interacts with outside counsel, takes depositions of witnesses, parties, and experts.
:Participates in setting financial reserves for claims.
:Interacts with insurers and actively contributes to the overall risk management of the organization and its employees.
:Apprises Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Counsel of all activities, pertinent changes in internal/external market, and threats and opportunities in a timely and anticipatory manner.
:Presents action plans for immediate implementation/approval.
:Assists outside counsel, risk management, claims management and others with identification, control, reduction of loss exposure, and insured and uninsured litigation in corporate and facility operations.
:Assists and advises on medical legal issues involving patient care.
:Participates in the development, review, revision and interpretation of policies/procedures and risk/safety issues.

:The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
:Must have good balance and coordination.
:The physical requirements of this position are: light work : exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
