Position Purpose & Summary

The Environmental Specialist position isresponsible for providing facility wide coordination in all environmentalarenas including air, water, and waste program management as well as assistingin compliance strategies for these programs. This position will also be one of the facility interfaces with local,state and federal agencies as well as customers with regard to sustainableoperations, and environmental regulations. Coordination of the facility environmental data management and processes,program development and implementation.

Principal Accountabilities

35% Provide coordination and assist plantoperations in environmental compliance by ensuring proper record keeping of ourrequirements. Responsible for reportingobligations as required by local, state, federal and corporate requirements.

25% Develop, maintain, and monitor compliancetools at the facility for environmental compliance and communicate andimplement environmental requirements/regulations for the facility to supportplant operations and the corporation.

15% Train plant personnel on Environmentalsubjects and perform internal assessments of environmental compliance systems.

15% Implement and champion existing programsand ISO standards and help support SSNA employee's understanding of them.

5% PromoteCargill through involvement in community activities and professionalorganizations

5% Assistin any other duties as assigned.


* Bachelor's degree or equivalentexperience

* Minimum 3 years of operationsexperience in an industrial setting

* Demonstrated knowledge of andexperience with environmental regulations

* Knowledge of OSHA regulationssuch as, but not limited to, process safety management, process hazardanalysis, and hazard recognition/control

* Strong communication andinterpersonal skills

* Individual must be able tobuild strong relationships with both internal and external customers andparticipate effectively on

* cross-functional teams

* Ability to effectively interact throughout all levels and functions of theorganization and with outside agencies

* Ability to be on-call outsidenormal business hours to assist when needed.

* Ability to travel 15% - 25%


* Bachelor's degree or higher inenvironmental science, biology, or chemistry

* Understanding of basicreliability concepts

* Professional certificationssuch as Certified Hazardous Material Manager (CHMM), Certified IndustrialHygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Professional Engineer(PE)

* Implementation of ISO 14000

* Negotiations experience withregulatory agencies

* Process Safety Management(PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP)experience

* Experience with facilityresponse plans (FRP)
